The Great International Stash Busting Giveaway

Katy has had a fabulous idea about a coordinated giveaway February 4 visit her blog to see the list of bloggers giving away fabric!

I'll be here on Feb 4 with a selection of fabric I can bear to part with.

Meanwhile, I've finally covered my diary. The first version was beautifully tailored, with pockets, and a pen sleeve. It didn't fit, and has been binned. So I got the overlocker out.

This is the second version, using all my leftover fabric from the last Amitie mailout.

I also had to visit Kikki K to find the perfect pen.

Meanwhile, it's been very hot. Today is our third day with a predicted maximum of 37 degrees (celcius) and it's supposed to happen again tomorrow. Could be worse of course, and is for many Australians, but it's enough to interrupt our day, appetite and sleep.

Which means Ruth is the lucky winner!

I'll be in contact, Ruth :)

Today's mail brought some lovely artwork, which will be given to my nephews on their birthday in August. It's fabulous stuff - and available here. Thanks to Kate for spreading the good word about these lovely sciencey but charming pictures.

Lastly, my latest plan, is to make a personalised diary cover ala Claudine.

my creative space

No action at the sewing machine - having a fan positioned right is far more important right now...

and some auditioning fabric for the next Four Seasons Quilt Swap.

Holiday Reading

This summer I've spent some time with some serious reading. The books which have had the most impact on me are 'Deep Economy' by Bill McKibben and 'When the Rivers Run Dry' by Fred Pearce.

They're both excellent. Definite food for thought, which is often lacking in my usual reads.

Actions required for me are to extend my vegetable garden, increase it's productivity and shop locally wherever possible. Shopping locally could mean walking to my closest supermarket, but instead I'm taking the approach of buying locally grown or made. So, I'll be visiting the Farmer's Market at least once a month, ideally more often.

This is an uncomfortable fit with my comping hobby, where I buy all kinds of environmentally terrible products to enter competitions.

A quick summary and a resolution or two...

So, I did do something in 2008 - in fact, quite a few somethings! It makes me happy to look at this mosaic.

2009 will be the year I rediscover how to crochet. I'll also be FINISHING some knitting.

I'll be taking a class in machine quilting, and practising my newly acquired skills. I'll also be participating in more challenge type things, and doing fewer swaps. I'm also planning to complete at least one bed quilt.

Blogging wise, 2009 will be the year of commenting. It's very easy to just read rather than visiting and interacting - so at least 5 per day is my aim.

I'll also be recording my Creative Space on Thursdays, with thanks to kootoyoo for a great idea.

Healthwise, I'm committing to breakfast.

And under the heading of truly momentous, I'm thinking of applying for a job.

Don't forget to leave a comment to enter my giveaway.

Giveaway time!

In celebration of my 300th post, and three years of blogging, I'm having a small giveaway. Just leave a comment and you'll be entered in the draw, which will be held on Friday January 16.

It's a mixed bundle, of three fat quarters, and three bloggy type goodies - a Miss Buttons pattern, a kootoyoo Blog Roll kit, and an Everyday Craft book.

So go on, comment :)

Happy new year

It's a little late, since my real new year was spent here

and hunting for treasure with a small pirate

and camping by a river

and spending time with the locals.

This is also my 300th post, done in a little over three years. A substantial effort, and a giveaway will be forthcoming in the next post.
